Nikon XT H Series

Productivity without compromise. With the Nikon XT H Series, you get an integration of industry-leading features in a single system. This results in a doubled data acquisition speed and therefore a significantly increased productivity. This is the result of advanced detectors combined with new features such as Half.Turn CT and Rotating.Target 2.0.

For many years, X-ray CT (computed tomography) has been used in laboratories to get a picture of the inside of specimens such as fossils and artifacts. More recently, this useful technology has found its way into manufacturing environments, where it is used for quality control. It can detect non-destructive voids, burrs, cracks and other defects in components and assemblies, including in additive manufacturing. X-ray CT also serves as a metrology tool to ensure dimensional control, both internal and external, with high accuracy.

The manufacturing industry uses the technology even at an earlier stage than qualitative post inspection, now measuring objects even during production and continuously adjusting the process in real time to prevent components from falling out of tolerance. By combining unique hardware with innovative software, the XT H 225 ST 2x delivers the efficiency, reliability and accuracy required for these production applications. The strength of the XT H 225 ST 2x is that it can be used at all stages from R&D to the production line and for series testing.

Half.Turn CT, faster CT analysis

Instead of rotating the sample being examined 360 degrees, Nikon Metrology has designed a method that allows sufficient data to be obtained by rotating the sample just over 180 degrees. A CT image is automatically built without loss of quality or accuracy using about half the amount of data required with conventional CT.

Rotating.Target 2,0

Nikon Metrology is the only company in the world to supply an X-ray CT system with a rotating target. Other products on the market use heat-absorbing materials which then require cool-down periods and lead to power limitations. Nikon’s unique 225 kV rotating target enables continuous operation over its entire power range up to 450 kV, providing superior inspection productivity. This provides 3 times higher resolution for the same power, or allows data collection 3 – 5x faster for the same resolution.

Auto.Filament Control and Quick.Change

With the XT H 225 ST 2x, users no longer have to choose between high resolution and long life filaments. Auto.Filament Control intelligently controls the X-ray source to double filament lifetime, increasing system availability.
When the filament needs to be changed, the introduction of Quick.Change plug-and-play filament cups significantly reduces downtime. This convenient, highly repeatable procedure eliminates the risk of operator error. In addition, the filaments have been pre-aligned and pre-conditioned by Nikon Metrology’s X-ray engineers to provide optimal performance.

Local.Calibration, high accuracy CT measurements

Local.Calibration enables fast, automated calibration of voxel size at any CT scan position, rather than the user having to perform the function manually. This leads to a radical improvement in measurement accuracy for metrology applications.

X-ray source for all applications

At the heart of Nikon Metrology’s superior image quality is world-leading X-ray source technology. Where competing models require dual tube configurations for flexibility, the design of Nikon’s unique internal X-ray source in the XT H 225 ST 2x allows up to four target heads to fit on the same X-ray tube base, resulting in unique flexibility and performance from just a single tube.

The easily interchangeable X-ray targets allow optimization for a wide range of samples, from a transmission target with sub-micron resolution, to a 225 kV reflection target (with a unique multi-metal target option), to the world’s only rotating target for outstanding performance.

Automation and integration

With the XT H series, you can have a fully automated production line to maximize CT productivity. The automated production workflow is fully customizable with automatic scanning, reconstruction and data analysis. With full control through IPC communication, the XT H-Series can be configured with autoloaders and robotic retrofits for fully automated lines and seamless integration into a production line.
