DeepSIM: super-resolution in a simple and budget-friendly way

Published On: 2 September, 2022/By /

Crest Optics has developed DeepSIM, the first super-resolution module compatible with any upright or inverted microscope that has a camera port. It is as easy to use as a confocal microscope and allows you to get twice the resolution with your existing microscope and your usual markers and staining protocols. With this technology, you can easily switch between techniques and avoid preparing special samples for super-resolution.

High resolution for dynamic processes

DeepSIM technology is based on structured illumination and provides XY resolution of ~100 nm and Z resolution up to ~300 nm. DeepSIM is reliable, easy to use and an affordable solution for studying, for example, cellular structures at high magnification and resolution. It is also suitable for studying dynamics in living cells. A frame rate of 10 fps (1024×1024 px FOV) allows you to study changes at cellular and subcellular levels.

Superresolution is also available at lower magnifications (20X-40X), extending the range of applications to include complex 3D models such as tissues, organoids, spheroids and small organisms.

Flexibility for the user

DeepSIM can be combined with the X-Light V3 spinning disk confocal, the only spinning disk confocal with a 25 mm field of view. With the fast confocal, you can quickly screen an area and with a click in the software then get a super-resolution image of an area of interest.

DeepSIM and X-Light V3 are excellent additions to Nikon’s Ti2-E inverted microscope, and can be easily controlled in the NIS-Elements software. Together, they provide a flexible, high-performance system with a fast confocal, a widefield system and a super-resolution system.
