Webinar: Sample preparation and hardness testing in the defense industry – how to ensure quality

Published On: 19 August, 2025/By /

In the defense industry, laboratory testing plays a key role in ensuring the safety, functionality and longevity of equipment, materials and systems. Many tests, such as corrosion testing, material fatigue and life analysis, grain size determination, phase analysis and hardness testing, start with materialography as the first step for further analysis. Optimal preparation without artifacts starts with sampling and ends with microscopic analysis or hardness testing. At every stage – from cutting to etching – the right parameters, the right consumables and precise and robust equipment are crucial.

This webinar will present the best preparation methods for armor components, ammunition parts, titanium and nickel-based alloys. The webinar is part of QATM’s new initiative towards the defense industry and highlights their expertise in supporting sample preparation in the defense sector.

Overview of webinar content

  • Metallographic investigations of armor components

  • Metallographic investigations of welded joints in the defense industry

  • Grain size determination in ammunition components
