On a cold winter’s day in February, it was time for BergmanLabora’s product specialist Malin Henriksson and service manager Thomas Tammik to install Integra’s media processor Mediaclave at SweTree Technologies AB in Umeå. SweTree is located next door to the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, SLU.

SweTree Technologies is a forest biotechnology company that provides products and technologies to improve the productivity and performance characteristics of plants and trees for forestry. Their goal is to make specific improvements to trees and wood and to add knowledge to the forest and fiber industry by having a high understanding of tree biology and biochemistry.

SweTree Technologies AB employs about 30 people with mixed backgrounds, including civil engineers in biotechnology, chemical engineers, BMA and pharmacists. The head office is in Umeå but they also have operations in Uppsala.

At SweTree, they have previously sterilized their media in a standard autoclave and then filled the plates manually with a peristaltic pump. They make about 1000 plates a week. “By using the Mediaclave media processor and automating the filling, we not only save time, get better quality but improve the ergonomics for the staff” says Karin Johansson, Head of Trait Transformation at SweTree Technologies.
